The Mexican state of Chiapas is a tourism hotspot for travelers interested in nature, culture, indigenous traditions and adventure travel. There are lots of small hotels in Chiapas with great features that connect visitors with the natural surroundings and local culture. But if you’re in search of a full-service, large-scale hotel with lots of amenities in the capital city, the Marriott Tuxtla Gutiérrez is one of the top choices. In my latest hotel travel video, I provide an inside look at this high-profile property.
As one of the top luxury hotels in Chiapas, the Marriott Tuxtla Gutierrez hotel offers lots of amenities and striking 21st century hotel design and architecture. In this, one of my latest Mexico travel videos, I provide a hotel tour and hotel review of some of the property’s biggest selling points. (I’ve also made a video about 5 cool things to do in Chiapas, in case you need more vacation inspiration.)

There are lots of smaller, independent hotels in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, but if you prefer international brands and if you’re a member of the Bonvoy frequent guest program, you might want to check out this inside tour, which includes hotel rooms, the hotel fitness center, swimming pool and overall hotel design and decor.
Set on a hill a few minutes by car from downtown, the 200-room Marriott Tuxtla Gutiérrez (which was originally a Camino Real property) has several noteworthy amenities.
You’ll notice some fairly bold 20th-century architectural elements as soon as you arrive, as well as a strong connection to nature as soon as you enter, since the lobby opens directly into the large central courtyard, allowing for lots of fresh air.

The large swimming pool is one of the hotel’s biggest selling points; it’s surrounded by quite a bit of greenery and is dramatically illuminated after dark.
I only had breakfast in the large atrium restaurant, but I appreciated the soaring ceiling, striking design and natural light. (Breakfast was included in my room rate but you should check to see if it’s included when comparing prices.)
I was surprised to find that the fitness center was one of the largest hotel gyms that I’ve seen in quite a while.

The hotel rooms at the Marriott Tuxtla Gutiérrez feature rather traditional decor. My room had a pleasant seating area and work desk, as well as a large, flatscreen TV sitting atop a large armoire. I liked the large artwork, which I think was representative of local Chiapas culture.
BEST FOR: The Marriott Tuxtla Gutiérrez hotel is ideal for business travelers as well as people taking a Mexico vacation in Chiapas who are looking for a large, full-service hotel with lots of amenities. Since Tuxtla Gutiérrez is a common gateway for international travelers heading to other, more remote parts of the state, the Marriott can make for a comfortable stopover during Chiapas tours around the state.
