Mexico is known as one of Latin America’s most progressive and LGBTQ+-friendly nations. And that welcoming attitude was on full display during the 2023 Los Cabos Pride event, which took place in June in downtown Cabo San Lucas.

DON’T MISS: The Best Pride & LGBTQ Travel Destinations in Latin America

I was lucky enough to attend this year’s pride celebration thanks to my participation in the LGBT Travel Symposium, a travel industry event hosted by OutThere Magazine, Queer Destinations and the Los Cabos Tourism Board.
We were staying at the nearby Corazon Cabo Resort and Spa, so it was a quick van ride to downtown Cabo San Lucas to join the parade, which always kicks off right around sunset (which is perfect timing to avoid the heat of the Baja California sun).
Los Cabos Pride was a remarkable event that showcased the vibrant spirit, inclusivity, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. With a stunning coastal backdrop, the festivities brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate love, acceptance, and equality. There was a sense of excitement in the air from the moment we arrived, even before participants had started marching.
The parade route, which snakes around the streets of downtown Cabo San Lucas, was filled with music, dancing, singing and overall merriment. The crowd was made up of mostly locals who were enjoying the celebratory environment.
At the end of the parade route, the Los Cabos Pride festival featured a diverse lineup of live performances, including music, dance, drag, and an impressive performance by Valentina, co-host of RuPaul’s “Drag Race Mexico.”
The Los Cabos Pride parade and festival definitely fostered a sense of community and solidarity among attendees. Various community organizations and LGBTQ+-focused initiatives were present, as well as groups representing hotel companies and tourism organization. It was an impressive turnout for a Mexico beach destination that is starting to gain greater attention as a vacation hotspot for LGBTQ+ travelers looking for sun, sand, nature and luxury hotel accommodations that are perfect for romance and friends getaways.
If you’re a fan of pride events in Mexico and looking for something new to try, you may want to consider putting Los Cabos pride on your calendar for next year. While not as large as Mexico City pride or Puerto Vallarta pride, it’s a relaxing, fun and energizing way to celebrate diversity.
I’m a travel writer, travel blogger and Mexico travel specialist, and I love sharing travel tips to make your next vacation or business trip better. I’ve also written a memoir: Prepare for Departure: Notes on a Single Mother, a Misfit Son, Inevitable Mortality and the Enduring Allure of Frequent Flyer Miles. It’s a coming-of-age story, a coming-out story and an end-of-life-story about the journeys that families must sometimes take together (it also happens to be quite funny, according to reviewers).
