I recently discovered yet another Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) in Mexico that is definitely worth a visit. Mazamitla, a postcard-perfect little town in Jalisco, not too far from Guadalajara. This picturesque town in the Sierra del Tigre mountain range is graced with beautiful architecture and a laidback vibe that’s a nice change from the hustle and bustle of nearby Guadalajara. And, personally, I think it’s one of the most beautiful Pueblos Mágicos that I’ve visited.
In this Mexico travel video, I share some of my favorite things to do in Mazamitla, including a tour of Monteverde Hotel de Cabañas, a hotel with cabins set in the woods. If you’re looking for hotels in Mazamitla or interesting side trips from Guadalajara, this video may provide some good travel tips. I admit this was my first visit and there is so much more I want to do. So expect more travel videos soon from this beautiful Mexico vacation destination!

Here are 3 things I loved during my short visit.
#1 is to simply stroll the streets. Among the top attractions is the Parroquia de San Cristóbal, a church with surprisingly Asian design elements. The central plaza offers shade and lots of places to sit, and the restaurants that line the plaza are nice places to eat, drink and people watch. Strolling is also good exercise in Mazamitla, since many of the streets are hilly. Regardless of where you walk, Mazamitla is beautiful by day and by night. In the evening, we also stopped for drinks at a cute bar after having dinner on the main square.
#2 is to take a tour. We booked an excursion with a Mazamitla tour company called Green Forest Tours for a fun introduction to the region’s abundant natural beauty. We headed into the hills to admire the lovely view, visited a nearby town with a picturesque reservoir and even passed a Flintstones house that’s for rent, which you’ll see in the video. Oh, I should also mention that Leo, our talented tour guide, treated us to a couple songs during our tour and I included a bit of that in the video, too.

#3 is to stay in a cozy cabin. We stayed at Hotel Monteverde, which is set in a hilly, wooded area about a 15-minute walk from downtown Mazamitla. There are a variety of cabin sizes, and ours had a full kitchen, bunk beds and two bathrooms — plus a cute resident cat who visited us a couple times. The room rate included a daily delivery of firewood and kindling, so we could light a fire and roast marshmallows — and it was my hubby Angel’s first time doing that! One thing to note when booking a hotel: check how far it is from the town center.
How to get to Mazamitla from Guadalajara: Plan your trip carefully. Travel time from Guadalajara to Mazamitla is anywhere from two hours and 15 minutes to more than four hours, depending on whether you drive, hire a driver, take a private tour transfer or a public bus. (We took a bus to get there, but decided to splurge and hire a driver to take us back on the return trip, and that saved a lot of time.)
There are lots of unique experiences awaiting in Mazamitla, and I want to go back!
