Historic proportions: The new Hampton Inn & Suites in Mexico City. |

Hilton Worldwide, which owns a variety of hotel brands beyond its familiar Hilton moniker, is in growth mode — and that means more options for Mexico travel and beyond. In my Orbitz business travel blog, I recently wrote about Hilton’s global growth spurt as well as the expansion of the company’s Hampton Hotels chain in both the United States and Mexico.
Now, it’s time for a roundup of the company’s growth in Latin America. Here are some of the newest hotels in the Hilton family.
• The 144-room Hilton Garden Inn Santiago Airport opened in June. It’s the first Garden Inn anywhere in South America.
• The Hilton Bogota is to open in October. The 245-room hotel is the second Hilton in Colombia and marks the brand’s return to Bogota after a 17-year absence.
• Panama City, Panama — already a boom town for hotel growth — is slated for multiple new Hilton family hotels: The Doubletree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn Panama, opening this year, and the Hilton Panama and The Panamera, a Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, both to open in 2012.
• In Mexico, Hilton Worldwide is debuting a Hilton Garden Inn in Tuxtla Gutierrez, three DoubleTree by Hilton hotels (in Queretaro, Merida and Mexico City). In 2012, the company will open a Hampton Inn by Hilton in Guadalajara and a Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton in Los Cabos.
