I’ve been traveling to Mexico quite a bit lately, in my role as a travel writer and journalist investigating and reporting on the “new normal” of travel during the pandemic. I’ve had the chance to experience what it’s like to travel in Mexico today and what it’s like to stay in some quite beautiful hotels in Mexico, as I report on new hygiene and health protocols for my monthly reports in TravelAge West, the leading travel trade magazine in the western United States.

One of my most enjoyable Mexico hotel stays recently was at the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, which is located on a beautiful stretch of Mexico beach in the heart of Cancun’s Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone). This luxury hotel recently made news when it converted from the European plan (which means you pay for food separately) to the all-inclusive format, so that now just about everything is included (except for a few very unique and special dining experiences).

My full report and review is coming out soon in TravelAge West, but for now I’m sharing my video tour (scroll down or else click here to watch my travel video on YouTube), which highlights some of the hotel’s biggest selling points — including the giant suites with gorgeous Caribbean views, the massive spa that is a destination unto itself, the extensive hygiene and safety protocols and the outstanding culinary experiences (be sure to watch the entire video so you can check out the video mapping feature at The Table, a spectacular, multimedia dining experience).

It’s important to note that the pandemic is not over, and both health and safety need to be top concerns today, no matter where you travel. The decision to travel is a personal one, and must be given much thought in circumstances like the ones we’re facing. Not everyone should be traveling right now, to tell the truth. I’m traveling for my work as a reporter, to write about the new realities and protocols that are being followed, so that travelers can make more informed decisions. And I must say I was impressed with the measures taken at this hotel (watch the video for details, or read my full report in TravelAge West).
I’d love to hear about your own personal travel decisions, as well as which hotels in Mexico are your favorites (when you do decide to travel, of course) — and also your questions about the Mexico travel experience and what destination or hotels you’re considering for your next trip.
