Classic style: Performers from Oaxaca using traditional clothing at Tianguis 2012. |
BY MARK CHESNUT
Mexico tourism and encouraging more people to visit Mexico were hot topics this week, as a record number of people attended Tianguis Turístico, Mexico’s annual tourism convention, which took place in Puerto Vallarta.
But for all the big-name tourism types and government officials — including Mexico’s president, Felipe Calderón — some of the most interesting and entertaining visuals were provided by the many talented dancers and performers, who traveled from as far away as the states of Sinaloa, Tabasco, Oaxaca and Nayarit to recreate traditional Mexican dances, complete with traditional clothing, at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center. Of course, there were also some more modern variations on tradition, including a bunch of beauty queens from Sinaloa.
In this EXCLUSIVE VIDEO, LatinFlyer.com showcases some lively highlights from the exhibit floor at Tianguis.
