In the clouds: The Riu Plaza Guadalajara is the tallest hotel in Mexico, and probably in all of Latin America. |

In a recent article I wrote for the Orbitz Travel Blog, I highlighted the world’s tallest hotels. Unfortunately, Latin America doesn’t rank very high when compared to the soaring towers in Asia and Dubai, but nevertheless the region does have some noteworthy properties. So if sleeping in the clouds is your dream, check into any of these tallest hotels in Latin America.
Mexico Hotels
Hotel Riu Plaza Guadalajara
In Mexico, the award-winner when it comes to height is the 50-story Riu Plaza Guadalajara, which opened in 2011 and ranks as the tallest hotel in Mexico, and by some counts all of Latin America. A luxurious runner-up is the 31-story St. Regis Mexico City, which debuted in 2008.
Central America Hotels
Billed as the tallest and largest building in Latin America, the Trump Ocean Club International Hotel and Tower Panama is a luxurious Panama hotel set in a dramatic, sail-shaped building that rises seventy stories above Panama Bay.
South America Hotels
This year, a new property takes the title of tallest hotel in Argentina, as the 41-story Renoir Alvear Palace makes its debut. In Peru, top choices include the 30-story Westin Libertador, and while in Brazil, you’ll get one of the best bird’s-eye views at the 26-story Renaissance Sao Paulo.
