Hit the slopes: Valle Nevado is one of South America’s top ski resorts. |

Ashes from Chile’s Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano range this month may have thrown a monkey wrench into some flight plans, but that hasn’t stopped avid snow skiers from heading to South America for the peak season.
June is the beginning of the winter season in South America’s southern cone, of course. Here are a couple value-priced deals at two of South America’s top ski destinations:
• Valle Nevado, in the Chilean Andes, has already welcomed its first storms of the season, with the fresh snow ready for skiers and snowboarders. Valle Nevado has partnered with LAN Airlines to offer a special deal for the season: If you reside in North America, you can fly to Chile aboard LAN and receive 20% off your package stay at Valle Nevado, including lodging in a double room, lift tickets, half-board and access to all of the resort’s facilities. To get this deal, you need to book directly with Valle Nevado and e-mail or fax your LAN e-ticket as proof of purchase.
• In Argentina, the Rochester Bariloche hotel is offering a sale for the month of August, with room rates starting at U.S.$69. The hotel, located in Argentina’s ski-popular city of Bariloche, also offers a romance package, for an additional 75 pesos argentinos, that includes champagne, petite fours, a late checkout and room upgrade (based on availability).
