Anyone planning a Peru vacation is surely aware of the ever-expanding array of mouthwatering Peruvian cuisine and tasty drinks. And now, a couple travel companies are making it easier to savor Peruvian specialties without leaving home.
Drinking Pisco at Home
As Machu Picchu celebrates the 100th anniversary since its rediscovery, the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, which is adjacent to the site, is putting its own liquid spin on the celebration, with a specialty cocktail made of pisco, Peru’s signature spirit. This was the was first cocktail served at the July 7th gala dinner at the hotel’s Tampu Bar Restaurant to celebrate the centennial, and it’s now offered to all guests on a daily basis.
This special libation features pisco macerated with muña (Andean mint), a specialty of the Tampu bar, mixed with lime juice, Cuaracao and fresh ginger ale. In case you can’t make it to the hotel in person, the Sanctuary Lodge has shared the recipe:
• ½ oz of Pisco macerated in muña
• ½ oz of Pisco Acholado
• ½ oz of sugar syrup
• ½ oz of lime juice
• ¼ oz of green Curacao
• 6 oz of ginger ale
• 5 ice cubes
• Serve in a pear-shaped glass and decorate with orange slices
Unlocking Peruvian Cuisine with a New Cookbook
As the gastronomy industry booms in Peru, the luxury cruise company Aqua Expeditions has announced the launch of a gourmet Peruvian cookbook designed by the company’s executive chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.
Chef Schiaffino’s interest in food began at the age of thirteen, while helping his father on their family farm. He eventually opened his own Peruvian restaurant, which prompted CEO of Aqua Expeditions, Francesco Galli Zugaro, to seek his help with the cuisine aboard the M/V Aqua and the M/V Aria.
The cookbook is available for purchase aboard the boats as well as at www.thetravellerscollection.com.
