During a recent assignment for my role as business travel blogger for Orbitz Worldwide, I investigated a variety of mixology classes and cocktail workshops hosted by hotels around the United States. I also came across noteworthy opportunities to say ¡Salud! during cocktail and wine tasting at Latin America hotels.
Stephanie Schneiderman, owner of Tía Stephanie Tours, recommends El Sueño Hotel + Spa, a boutique property in Puebla, Mexico. “We always enjoy a great and fun Mexican mixology demo and tasting,” she said.
In San Juan, Puerto Rico, El Convento, an elegant member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, hosts a nightly manager’s reception that includes free wine and hors d’oeuvres.
Park Hyatt offers a Masters of Food & Wine series at multiple properties, which includes “culinary and beverage experiences.” The Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, for example, will create an organic market within its own gardens on September 21 and 22, allowing guests to taste and learn about organic trends. The Park Hyatt Mendoza, meanwhile, on September 22 will take guests on a “safari tour” guided by a professional photographer, which ends with a selection of cheese and cold cuts accompanied by wine from local vineyards.
The Grand Hyatt Santiago also offers a program called Ruta Gourmet as part of its Gourmet Club activities, with different food and beverage pairings every month. On November 8, 2012, for example, the hotel will host a Luxury Wines Exhibition.
If you prefer the feel of wine more than the taste, consider checking in at the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos. This Mexico hotel’s SOMMA Wine Spa offers “vinotherapy” treatments, using grapes from Baja California. You can sample spirits without even gaining a calorie.
