San Juan, Puerto Rico witnessed its 24th annual gay pride parade this month, with a parade that started in the neighborhood called Condado, followed by a colorful, music-filled rally dedicated to orgullo gay.
The mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, was among the big names present, and a wide variety of political, social and religious organizations — not to mention colorful gay bars, go-go boys and drag queens — brought their own excitement and energy to the event. With all these great festivities, it’s no wonder that San Juan ranked as one of LatinFlyer’s Top 5 Gay Travel & Vacation Destinations in Latin America.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend this year, but my friends at the Puerto Rico Tourism Company were good enough to share these great photos (the following week, there was an equally festive pride event in the beachfront town of Cabo Rojo).
For a video and even more photos from past years, be sure to check out my VIDEO coverage of San Juan’s gay pride parade. And remember, it’s always a good idea to start planning your Puerto Rico vacation several months in advance if you’d like to attend the island’s gay pride celebrations, which take place in June — especially in Cabo Rojo, where the beach and hotels fill up with revelers. So mark those calendars now for 2015!
