As Peru works to recover from the mudslide and flooding that left thousands of visitors stranded around Machu Picchu last week, the tourism industry is struggling to get its bearings. Peru Rail, the company that provides the rail link to Machu Picchu, continues to work with the government on a restoration plan for the tracks.
In the mean time, existing hotels and tour operators are working to create attractive packages and deals for vacationers still interested in heading to Cusco. Fiesta Tours, a Lima-based tour operator, has introduced a last-minute two-for-one special with Casa Andina, a chain of luxury hotels set in some of the most popular tourist destinations. New reservations made for visits between February 1-28 will receive one free night with the purchase of one night. This includes five properties in Cusco, the largest city near Machu Picchu.
The Picoaga Hotel, meanwhile, is offering a 15% discount for new reservations, for stays before March 15.
Inkaterra La Casona has put together a two-night luxury honeymoon program that includes accommodations in a double suite, a bottle of wine and spa treatments.
