This is a big year for Mexico. Not only is it the 200th anniversary of the nation’s independence from Spain, it’s also the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, which helped set the groundwork for turning Mexico into one of the largest economies in the hemisphere today.
My article, “A Trip Through Mexico’s Independence,” has just been published in Latitudes, the in-flight magazine of American Eagle, which reaches more than 40 million travelers every year as they fly to more than 160 destinations in the Western Hemisphere.
Whether you’re headed to Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Michoacán or even the beach resorts, there are ways to take part in the festivities. And in Mexico City, the excitement will come to a head in September, with parades, street festivals, performances and exhibits. Check out my article for ideas on how to make the most of this historic year south of the border, including a listing of tour operators that are offering special programs for the fall season.
