The Holiday Inn Cordoba, in Argentina’s second-largest city. |
During my recent visit to Córdoba, the second-largest city in Argentina, I was a guest at the Holiday Inn Córdoba, one of the few large international hotel brands that offers lodging in this major metropolis. Here are my thoughts (and stay tuned for my coverage of the must-see tourist sites in and around Córdoba, here and on LatinFlyer.com).
THE ARRIVAL: Located outside the city center, the 133-room Holiday Inn Cordoba is much closer to the airport than most large hotels in Córdoba (and adjacent to the bizarrely named Dinosaurio Mall, for anyone interested in shopping or catching a movie). Since it’s outside of the bustling city center, it’s also less trafficked and therefore a good option for anyone looking for a more tranquil setting for their visit.
THE STYLE: The grounds are attractively landscaped with palm trees and dramatic lighting. The architectural style and decor is conservative, centered around an attractive but not overpowering circular lobby and atrium. Hallways are lined with an interesting array of original artwork. Guest rooms are amply sized, and even the standard rooms are well-equipped with 32-inch TV, minibar, coffeemaker, clock radio, safe deposit box and hair dryer.
AMENITIES: Free Wi-Fi in all guest rooms is a definite plus; there is also an outdoor swimming pool, a small gym, a business center and meeting space for up to 1,100 people. The Kids and Teens Club is a sure selling point for anyone traveling with children, and is something most hotel properties in this city do not offer. A restaurant and bar offer service late into the night, which is ideal, since there are not many options in the immediate vicinity (and calling for a taxi later at night can result in an extended wait, which led me on two occasions to walk out to the major thoroughfare and find my own taxi).
BEST FOR: Business travelers, travelers with children and anyone looking to avoid the traffic downtown, plus anyone who prefers the reliable style and amenities of a recognized international hotel brand, or who might need of a comfortable base that makes for convenient trips to the tourist sites outside the city. Those looking to include golf and spa and spa treatments in their visit (albeit further outside the city, but equally well-placed for exploring the sites outside the city) may also consider the sister property, the Crowne Plaza Cordoba – San Miguel.
$90 and up.
