THE STYLE: Upon entering the hip Buenos Aires neighborhood called Palermo, which is filled with trendy bars, boutiques and cafes, it’s clear that BoBo Hotel & Restaurant (the name is an abbreviation of “Bourgeois Bohemian”) belongs here. The entrance is through immense wrought iron doors that swing open to reveal a cozy sitting area with guide books and modern art pieces and the one-person reception where a smile and personal greeting is always a guarantee. The small room count and metal keys add a friendly, homespun touch to the environment.
DINING: The main restaurant off the lobby is intimate in size, with large windows surveying the busy street. Inside, starched linens cover the tables and booth seating where a la carte breakfast is included in the rates. For dinner, locals pop by for the homemade cuisine and Argentine wine list in a formal yet friendly environment.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The wooden staircase is supplemented by an old-fashioned elevator that transports guests among the three floors. Each level has only a few rooms, each with its own name, décor, and size. Angelina, on the top floor, is a particular favorite for its whirlpool tub and outdoor terrace. All are complete with modern furnishings including platform beds with thick duvets and nightstands featuring original artwork. Small desks are great for using the free wireless high speed Internet, and safes are tucked away into corners. The hotel’s own bottled toiletries have a gentle scent. Rooms here are similar to staying at a friend’s home rather than a nondescript large hotel, which is what many guests want especially in this up-and-coming neighborhood.
BEST FOR: The small, manageable size of this hotel makes it a great home base for day trips around town or the region. It is always nice to come home to a friendly place where the staff asks about your day and gives their favorite suggestions for what to do in the evening. It is a luxury hotel with a casual, local feel that suits couples and individuals quite well.
