Last week, Mexican diplomats, ambassadors and tourism officials gathered beneath a 21,000-pound fiberglass model of a blue whale, during a gala reception at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. I was one of the least important people there, to be sure. But we were all present for one reason: To view the first two videos from the Mexico Tourism Board’s new “Live It to Believe It” advertising campaign.
The presentation actually opened with a couple pop music videos set in Acapulco: “Whistle” by Flo Rida and “Follow the Leader” by Wisin & Yandel with Jennifer Lopez; it was meant as something of a tribute to Mexico’s first jet-set resort destination, which recently experienced devastating flooding.
The new travel video commercials, appeared on the giant screens in the museum’s Irma and Paul Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life, focus on two destinations: the Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit region and Mexico City. Both of the new videos are classy and evocative of an upscale, memorable Mexico vacation experience, narrated with British inflection by a woman who could easily be doing voiceovers for the next movie at the multiplex.
Among the more than 400 guests were Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs, José Antonio Meade, Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, Eduardo Medina Mora, Mexico’s undersecretary for North America, Sergio Alcocer, the consul general of Mexico in New York, Sandra Fuentes-Beraín and Rodolfo López Negrete, CEO of the Mexico Tourism Board.
Will the new ad campaign and beautifully styled videos make you want to travel to Mexico even more? You tell us!
