Anyone yearning for a golf vacation take note: Pristine Bay Resort, on Roatan Island in Honduras, has announced that it will host the 69th Central American Golf Championship on its Pete- and Perry Dye-designed Black Pearl Golf Course from February 25 through March 3, 2012.
Established in 1944, the championship switches host countries yearly and is billed as the most important Central American golf competition. Participants play both a team and individual format. The event has been won 18 times by Costa Rica, followed by Guatemala with 14 titles. Golfers also vie for men’s and women’s titles in regular and senior divisions. This is the first time the contest will be held on Roatan.
The par-72, 7,179-yard Black Pearl Golf Course features 14 holes with ocean views and places a premium on shot making. Perhaps most perilous for the elite field will be the signature hole — the 157-yard island-green, par-3 11th – with its elevated tee, ubiquitous trade winds and tournament pressure making proper club selection challenging.
“The Central American Golf Championship will be the first esteemed tournament played on The Black Pearl,” says Mario Toriello, vice president of sales and marketing. “When combining our distinguished course with Roatan’s natural beauty, numerous resort amenities and array of real estate options, it’s little wonder that the island has become one of the world’s hottest locales for tourists and second-home owners.”
For anyone in need of a golf vacation, Pristine Bay Resort offers customized packages that include deluxe villa accommodations and golf; other options include local dining, island transportation, zip-lining, deep sea fishing, diving, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean Sea.
