During my recent trip to Mexico City to speak at and cover the LGBT Confex conference, I first stayed at the lovely Condesa Haus hotel, and then extended my stay after my hubby arrived by renting an apartment via Airbnb. Here’s a review of our latest experience with Airbnb in Mexico.
THE AMBIANCE: The apartment, listed as “Beautiful Flat, Reforma” is located on a side street near Paseo de la Reforma, the big boulevard, and a few blocks from the nightlife and restaurants of the Zona Rosa. The building is mildly modern, with a 24-hour doorman in the small lobby, and a flight of stairs that leads up to the elevator.

The apartment itself has attractive but not overpowering decor, and is well laid out with a living/dining room, laundry room with washing machine, a balcony, two bedrooms with double beds, two bathrooms with showers and even an office with two desks and additional storage space. The full kitchen is well equipped with items like a blender and microwave as well as full-size stove, oven and refrigerator, laundry room with washing machine.

I was especially impressed with some of the thoughtfulness that went into preparing this apartment for rentals; the host, Susana, left bottles of water, a box of energy bars and even a six-pack of Victoria beer. The desks had pencils, pens and notepads, as well as comfortable office chairs that are perfect for productivity. The bathrooms had soap and shampoo. And attractive live plants and an array of cool and artsy books adds to the homey ambiance. There were even cut flowers in a vase on the coffee table.
The bed in the master bedroom was comfy and came with lots of pillows and extra blankets, and the sole TV is in the bedroom. The balcony doesn’t quite have what could be called a beautiful view, but the two chairs and table still make it a pleasant place to sit when the weather’s warm.
