On my most recent visit to Ecuador, during which I’m touring Quito and also moderating two panels at the SAHIC South America Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference, I flew American Airlines from New York City, connecting in Miami. Here’s a report about the travel experience.
THE ROUTE: Miami (MIA) to Quito (UIO), Boeing 757 (in OneWorld livery), 3 hours 42 minutes, economy class

THE DEPARTURE: I used the efficient train at Miami International Airport to connect between gates. Boarding was by Group number. For some reason I was able to upgrade to Main Cabin Extra, but I was still in Group 3. Boarding was fast and efficient.
THE AIRCRAFT: The American Airlines Boeing 757 had two classes of service, with economy class divided between standard seating and Main Cabin Extra, which is toward the front of the economy class cabin, with extra legroom. The flight crew was based in Lima, Miami and Bogotá, and seemed fully bilingual, making all announcements in both English and Spanish.

Here are the features on board economy class on the American Airlines Boeing 757:
AIRLINE SEATING: Pillows and blankets were on all seats in economy class. The headrests had wings, which I love for resting my head. Some seats had electrical outlets (mine didn’t).
INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT: Video screens were over the aisle. Headsets were distributed for free during the flight. The movie was Rio 2, with additional programming provided by NBC Universal on American Airlines.
AIRLINE FOOD: A free hot lunch was served — not bad for a U.S.-based carrier — with a choice of either lasagna or chicken with rice, both with a roll, a salad and Love and Quiches caramel brownie (I had the chicken and it was more than decent, and I’m already a Love and Quiches addict). Drinks were served free during the meal service, and again immediately after.

THE ARRIVAL: The new Quito airport, which opened in 2013, is spacious and pleasant, although the roadwork is not yet completed on the new highway that will link it more quickly with the city of Quito; this should improve by next year.
