Mexico City may be a bustling, sometimes chaotic metropolis, but its parks provide beautifully peaceful setting in which to relax. My personal favorite is Parque México, located in the hip Condesa neighborhood. To fully appreciate all it has to offer, we’re joined in this Mexico City travel video by Pablo Rodriguez, a talented Costa Rican actor who’s made his home in Mexico City for many years.

Open since 1927, Parque México is a beautiful green space in the hip neighborhood called Condesa, on the site of a former racetrack. With its art déco design elements and Mediterranean flora, it’s a wonderful place to stroll.

Since Rodriguez is a Condesa local, he’s able to provide us with an insider’s view about why Parque México is a favorite place for locals and visitors alike. In our unfiltered Mexico travel video, He also shows us the park’s newest feature, Audiorama, a peaceful section opened in 2021 and designed for quiet relaxation, meditation and reading.
The first time I met Pablo Rodriguez Gomez was after seeing him onstage — he’s a famed stage actor, dancer and choreographer in Mexico City who’s wowed audiences in works like “La Jaula de las Locas” (“The Birdcage”) and “El Beso de la Mujer Araña” (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”). Now I’m honored to have interviewed him for my latest YouTube travel video.
Pablo also talks about what it’s like to live in Mexico City as an expat, why he loves the city and how he decided to move there. If you’re looking for interesting places to go in Mexico City, Parque México should definitely be on your list, whether you’re enjoying a Mexico vacation, need a break during a business trip to Mexico or are looking to sample local life as you consider living as an expat in Mexico City.

This is one of a new series of travel videos I’m doing called “Favorite Places,” in which I interview locals and expats about their favorite places to hang out in the cities where they live. If you have an idea on where I should cover and who I should interview, please let me know!
Here are 5 fun things to do in Parque Mexico.
- 1. Frolic at the dog park. Rodrigo brings his dog here regularly. Even if you don’t have a pooch (I don’t), it can still be fun to stroll by and watch the critters frolic.
2. Hang at the Lindbergh Forum. The Foro Lindbergh, an open-air venue with Art Deco style, was named for the aviator Charles Lindbergh, and features a beautiful sculpture by famed Mexican artist José María Hernández Urbina; the work is an artistic representation of Luz Jiménez, an indigenous model and Nahuatl-language storyteller. The forum today is a popular place for people to practice skateboarding, soccer and other sports, and you may even be able to join a dance class.
3. Work out at the open-air gym. If you’re looking for a gym in Mexico City, it’s hard to beat the price or the setting at this facility, which is free to use. If you’re renting an Airbnb in Mexico City without a fitness center or staying at a nearby gym-free boutique hotel in Mexico City’s Condesa district, this can be an especially good option.

4. Relax at Audiorama. Opened in 2021, Audiorama is Parque México’s newest feature. It’s a tranquil, open-air space with soothing soft music, comfy chairs and plenty of shade. It’s designed for meditation, reading and relaxation — a quiet zone with no pets or food allowed.
5. Admire the artwork and architecture. The sculpture at Foro Lindbergh is just one of several public works to admire in Parque México; there is also a soaring Art Deco clock and a bronze bust of Albert Einstein, sculpted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.
