Fashion photographer Mario Testino turned his talented lens to sumptuous Rio de Janeiro in one of his excellent South America-focused photo books. |
One of the things I most look forward to seeing in my mailbox is the catalog from Taschen, the German publisher of art, design and photography books. The fearless creativity they show in their choice of titles is a delight, and the catalog actually reads more like a magazine. And their books can also serve as great inspiration for Latin America travel ideas.
I was especially pleased to notice in the most recent issue that they’re again promoting MARIO DE JANEIRO Testino, a somewhat confusingly (but nevertheless cleverly) titled photo book by Mario Testino, who is not only one of the world’s foremost fashion photographers, but also the best-known lensman to come from Perú. It just may be the sexiest tribute to Brazil travel and Peru travel to come from any publisher.
“Inspired by the boys and girls from Copacabana,” as Taschen describes it, this 200-page tome captures the natural sensuality and good looks of a variety of local beach-going residents, nearly all of whom look like models. (If this is a bit too randy for you but you’d still like to check out Testino’s Latin America-focused work, consider his wonderful book Lima Peru, in which he edited and curated a broad collection of photos and imagery from Peru’s capital city.)
