It may be an updated logo. A fresh look. Or perhaps a brand-new name and a total corporate makeover. Whatever the specifics, rebranding can be a key strategy for businesses in a variety of situations, whether it’s to maintain relevance in the marketplace, reflect a merger, strengthen a company’s positioning or reposition it for growth and change. In just about any market segment, there is much to be gained from stepping back and taking a look at what a revitalized brand can do.
Such is the case with this very travel blog. After years operating as LatinFlyer, a site tightly focused on travel to Latin America, I’m revamping the site with a brand-new name: Departure Level.

The revamp comes after months of thought and planning. If you follow my work, you know that the past year or so has been laser focused on releasing and promoting my book, Prepare for Departure: Notes on a Single Mother, a Misfit Son, Inevitable Mortality and the Enduring Allure of Frequent Flyer Miles.
Now, with the book well established, it’s time for a fresh new look and approach for this travel website, with a wider lens that takes in more of what the world has to offer. I’ve been a travel writer for more than 20 years, so the timing is perfect for growing this site and expanding its scope.
This refreshed site will continue to offer the same insider travel tips about Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean, of course (including some of the all-time top posts), but Departure Level will take it up a notch, with expanded coverage and more engaging content. Over the next few weeks and months, you’ll find:
• More destinations: I’ll be covering a wider array of great places for vacations and business trips — including some lesser-known destinations that might surprise you, in various places around the globe.
• More video: You may have already noticed a greater amount of multimedia content on this travel blog and on my social media platforms, including Instagram and YouTube. You’ll find fast-paced content in the form of Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, as well as longer-length travel videos designed to take you to new places and provide inspiration for your next trip.

• More insightful travel tips: With the expanded coverage, Departure Level will be able to provide you with more detailed and diverse travel tips about a wider array of destinations, attractions and activities.
• More cool stuff: I’ve got some ideas in the works that include more interviews with local experts and travelers — so if you have a story to share, please do let me know!
• New ways to connect: The launch of Departure Level also presents new opportunities for a wider array of travel and tourism organizations to reach an audience of highly dedicated travel addicts and frequent flyers. You won’t find a more cost-effective way to pinpoint an audience of well-traveled people.
I’m open to your ideas as we continue to develop this refreshed site. What travel tips are you most interested in? What kinds of travel excite you the most? And do you have your own travel experiences to share? Don’t be shy about contacting me.
And please, don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to Departure Level.
Thanks to everyone who’s supported and followed this site for so many years. I look forward to developing something even bigger and better. Happy travels!
